| Introduction |
|
Welcome. This site is dedicated to those who served in Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), during the Vietnam War. We also wish to extend a warm welcome to the many relatives and friends who have a special connection to Bravo Company, and as some of our visitors are probably not familiar with military matters, we have made a special effort to present this material without too much military jargon and with sufficient background to make it understandable to all. In January 2007, several veterans who served in Bravo Company during 1967-68 decided to establish a website that would contain a summary of our tour of duty in Vietnam, together with photographs and a company roster with available email addresses. Our approach requires a brief explanation. A tour of duty in Vietnam was normally 12 months and the rotation period for most personnel arriving or departing 1st Cavalry Division units was mostly during the summer months. In view of this rotation timeframe and our objectives, it made sense to focus on a specific period, such as, from the summer of 1967 to the summer of 1968, and so on. As the objective is to present a fairly detailed account of our year in Vietnam, this can only be prepared by veterans who served in Bravo Company during that particular year. We hope that our 1967-68 site will encourage other year groups to develop similar web sites that are linked together by our common name – Eager Arms, the radio call sign for Bravo Company during most of the Vietnam War. Therefore, the proposed site names and timeframes are “eagerarms1965-66”, “eagerarms1966-67”, this site – “eagerarms1967-68”, and so on. The following persons have expressed an interest in developing a web site for the indicated year group: Acknowledgements and a special thanks from the troopers of Bravo Company (1967-68), 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) to:
Martin Brauer for his
diligence in producing this outstanding website for us.
Sven Gerlith for his expertise in preparing the excellent maps and photographs. Colonel Raymond Bluhm (A/2/8 Cav '67) for his professional advise and proofreading the historical text.
